Object description: Cast. Master of animals: anthropomorphic tube. Two human faces on the tube, one at top, one in center with prominent noses. Top face has loops for ears, and lampshade like hat, triple ring necklace (choker) with petal pendants and horizontally striped breast piece. Lower face has triple ringed necklace/girdle. Central figure grasps necks of the flanking beasts with bent spindly arms. Haunches plain, with claws rendered by knobs, long tails curled over at the bottom. Decor: the flanking animals have gaping jaws, roosters' combs, prominent eye coils, and manes indicated by a line with striations along the edge. Haunches of lower figure have straight central "legs", bent at knees and attached with wires to haunches. Plain base.

Arne, Ture J:son (1879-05-07 - 1965-08-02), archaeologist

Description: Ture Arne Johnson, born May 7, 1879 in Söderköping, died 2 August 1965, Swedish archaeologist.
PhD in Uppsala in 1914 with the thesis "La Suède et l'Orient, études sur les relations archéologiques de la Suède et de l'Orient pendant l'Age des Vikings". Arne's field of work was mainly the contacts between Scandinavia and the early Russia.

Description: Near Eastern Collections
Among the highlights in the Near Eastern collection, are the Bronze Age objects found by professor T Arne, during the Swedish excavations of 1932 in Shah Tepe in northeastern Iran.
The Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities also has one of the world's largest and finest collections of ancient Persian bronzes from Bronze- and Iron Age Luristan(2700 BC – 650 BC.
From Mesopotamia the museum has a representative collection of cuneiform tablets and seals from Sumerian and Babylonian times.
A relief from the Northwest palace in Nimrud, built by the Assyrian king Assurnasirpal II and dated to 860 BC, can be seen at the museum. Across the relief is a long inscription that tells the story of the king and his achievements.
The Englishman Austin Henry excavated the relief in the 1840’s in Iraq and presented it to Queen Josephine of Sweden. She in turn donated it to The National Museum of Fine Arts in Stockholm for its opening in 1866.A copy of the original relief is on display for the time being at the museum.
