This picture is representative for Native American contemporary art (graphic art, pictorial art) from B.C., Canada; i.e. from the American Indian culture area of the Northwest Coast. Don Yeomans is a well known artist from B.C. The museum has a large pool of ethnographical objects (primarily the Gustav Retzius collection 1904.19) from the Northwest Coast and also a fair amount of contemporary Native American Art of B.C., primarily then the collections from/via Carl Johan Gurt, the Swedish expert on the Northwest Coast Indian cultures and shamanism.
Gallery Astley, located in the small town of Uttersberg, has a totem pole, made by Northwest Coast Native carvers outside the art gallery. Litterature: see e.g. the journal American Indian Arts Magazine; Carl Johan Gurt´s contributions in the journal Fjärde världen ("The Fourth World") and in the museum´s Tre Världsbilder (2000) and in the museum´s Med Världen i Kappsäcken (2002); see also exhibition catalogues, monographs and not the least P.D.
