artist's sketch, ostracon
- Object description
- Ostracon, fragment of a plaque, originally measuring about 10x14 cm. Sketches and inscriptions in black on both sides. On one side is a fragmentary drawing of the hieroglyph/scarab for “heart”, with an inscription in five lines, with chapter 30 from The Book of the Dead. The name and title mentioned in the text belongs to the Draughtsman of Amun Nb-r. A man by that name and title is mentioned in other sources which places him in 19th dynasty Deir el-Medina (see comments below). On the reverse is a sketch of an ushebti, facing right. In seven horizontal lines is an inscription from chapter 6 in the Book of the Dead.
