Object description: Plastic, janiform kantharos. Wide, flaring lip; vertical band handles from lip to upper body; body in the shape of one male and one female face; slightly concave neck; flat base. Red clay; light brown slip; reddish brown to black glaze; brownish black and white paint. Inside and outside of neck and handles brownish black; double row of dots on neck around female face. A: black, male face and neck with protruding eyebrows and mouth, flattened nose; light brown, plastic curls, mouth, and whites of the eyes; black pupils. B: light brown, female face and neck with black eyebrows, eye contours and pupils; whites of the eyes painted white; possibly traces of red paint at mouth; black, plastic curls above forehead.

Study Gallery

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. A series of booths filled to the brim with beautiful vases functions as a traditional study collection of ancient ceramics.
