Object description: Everted rim; flange for a lid on inside; short, wide neck; sloping shoulder; upright, pointed handles at shoulder; rounded body; short stem; moulded, flaring ring base. Red clay; black glaze; ochre wash; added, white paint. Reserved neck; elongated tongues on shoulder; handles black; on one side of body flying Eros, wearing a kekryphalos, a necklace, bracelets, a bandoleer and shoes, holding a phiale in his left hand and a white wreath in his left – added white marking details on wings, phiale and jewellery; in the upper field to the left a “window”, above the phiale an ivy leaf (?) and below a spray; on the opposite side a seated woman, wearing a chiton and bracelets, holding a phiale in her right hand and another object in her left; in the upper field two “windows” and a cluster of grapes – added white marking details in the scene; on both sides the figures are flanked by large flowers and tendrils; large palmettes beneath handles; wave pattern on lower body; stem, resting surface and underside reserved.

Benedicks-Bruce, Carolina

Description: Carolina Maria Benedicks-Bruce (28 October 1856 – 16 February 1935) was a Swedish sculptor. After studies at the Academy of Arts in Sweden she went to France, at first to study and later to live and work at the artists' colony in Grez-sur-Loing where she met her husband William Blair Bruce. With him she returned to Sweden and together they created the artists estate Brucebo on Gotland, which was later established as a nature reserve. She also worked actively with the preservation of heritage buildings, women's right to vote and establishing the Swedish Women's Voluntary Defence Organization.

Study Gallery

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. A series of booths filled to the brim with beautiful vases functions as a traditional study collection of ancient ceramics.
