- Object description
- Bell krater. Wide mouth with overhanging rim; upper wall gently curving in above handles; rolled-back handles at upper body; lower body tapering to a short stem; groove at junction between stem and base; hollow disc base with convex edge. Red clay; black glaze. On inside of rim two reserved bands; on outside a reserved laurel branch between bands; A: to the left a naked youth, facing right, holding a discus; in the middle another naked youth, standing en face, holding a spear in his left hand and a jumping weight in his right; to the right a woman in chiton and fillet, holding a wreath in her right hand and a fillet in her left; B: three youths in himatia, the one to the left and the one to the right holding staffs; in the upper field to the left a set of stylised jumping weights; handle panels reserved; on both sides a border of meanders and saltier squares below figures; groove at junction between stem and base reserved; two reserved bands on edge of base; underside reserved.
