- Object description
- Bell krater. Wide, overhanging rim; almost straight upper wall; lower body tapering to a stem; slightly raised, horizontal handles at upper body; grooved, hollow base. Porous red clay; black glaze; added white. Two reserved bands on inside of rim; reserved laurel branch between bands on outside; handle panels and inside of handles reserved; egg-pattern encircling handle attachments; A: a goddess rising from the ground, surrounded by three satyrs; the goddess has male features and wears a stephane and a himation; the satyrs wear white wreaths and two of them seem to be threatening the goddess with hammers; in the background a tree; B: three youths in himatia; the youth in the centre and the one to the right stand in conversation; the two outer youths lean on sticks; below figures on both sides a border of meanders and saltier squares; edge of base and underside reserved.
