lamp

- Object description
- Mouldmade lamp; oval, body more pointed at the nozzle end. A rim surrounds the decorated discus and extends to enclose the wick-hole area, producing a channel between the large wick-hole and the two filling-hole. At the rear there is an unpierced, triangular handle with a groove on its edge. There are two filling-holes, one at the beginning of the channel with the edge of the discus, the other in the centre of the discus with a moulded rosette around it. On the rounded shoulders there are a moulded pattern of stylised palm branches. The slightly raised base is concave within. The base-ridge continues in two lines towards the handle, forming tree grooves which are extending also towards the handle. Brick-reddish clay and the same, slightly darker slip. Traces after use on wick-hole.
