Object description: Mouldmade lamp. Circular body with convex profile; groove indicating a slightly raised, flat base. A deep, concave discus with asymmetrically located opening. The moulded rim is inward-sloping (Loeschcke Typus II.a). Voluted nozzle with rounded tip; air-hole between volutes. At the rear is a pierced handle above which is an ornament in the form of a crescent with a sunken crescent-form panel. Reddish-brown clay, and slip, spotted on body.

Reported to have been acquired in Rome. Bequest of baron B. von Beskow to the Royal Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities. Deposited in the National Museum, Stockholm, in 1872.

Study Gallery

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. A series of booths filled to the brim with beautiful vases functions as a traditional study collection of ancient ceramics.
