wreath

- Object description
- The wreath is composed of two tubular stems (0.5 cm d.) tapering off successively to attain at the centre the thickness of plain gold wire. The wire is then wound around the two stems to secure them. At the end of each stem an angular stud has been inserted to imitate an oblique crossection of a stem, which keeps the ends together, forming an almost perfect circle. On each stem 12 groups of two to three leaves, most likely olive leaves, are spaced at intervals of approximately 5 cm givning a total number of 70 leaves. The leaves extend into gold wire, inserted through holes, while some are emerging on the reverse side and finally wound around the stem. 29 hollow berries of gold, varying in size, are attached to the end of small wires, 3 cm i lenght, and entwined in the groups of leaves.
