Enligt katalogkort: “Chinese rhinoceros wine cup. Period: Early Ming. Description: Representing the Han Poet-statesman Chang Ch’ien in his hollow trunk, floating down the Yellow river, seated on the log with a whisk in his hand. Beside him a branch of prunes. Underneath two whirls with breakers and froth. Measures: L. 246mm. Purchased: Bequest of H.M. King Gustaf VI Adolf. No 1924. Dossier: B. Gyllensvärd: BMFEA 43/1971, page 226. Compare: ÖM no 1256/74 and ÖM no 1269/74.”

Gustaf Vl Adolf har gjort stora insatser inom kulturlivet, med tyngdpunkt inom arkeologin, understött och finanierat forskning, arkeologiska fältarbeten, etc.
Gustaf Vl Adolf var kännare av äldre kinesisk konst och fornkunskap och innehade en egen stor gedigen och kvalitativt högtstående samling. Gustaf Vl Adolf har även medverkat vid tillkomsten av Stat.hist.mus:s stora och dyrbara östasiatiska samlingar.
Gustaf Vl Adolf har gjort värdefulla inköp av fornföremål för Nationalmuseum.
Sedan 1911 var Gustaf Vl Adolf ordf. i fören. Nationalmusei vänner. Konstsamlare, bl a av modern sv. konst, särskilt handteckningar och grafik. (Etnografiska museets personpost)
, Gustaf VI Adolf, Oscar Fredrik Wilhelm Olaf Gustaf Adolf, född 11 november 1882 på Stockholms slott i Stockholm, död 15 september 1973 på Helsingborgs lasarett i Helsingborg, Malmöhus län, var Sveriges kung från den 29 oktober 1950 och fram till sin död. Han var son till Gustaf V och Victoria av Baden och farfar till Carl XVI Gustaf. Han ingick äktenskap 1905 med den brittiska prinsessan Margaret (1882–1920) och gifte sig för andra gången 1923 med Louise Mountbatten (1889–1965).
