Kavelbeslag (menuki) av metall. Ett par av brons med guld i form av två flygande småfåglar (suzume). Menuki är dekorativa metallornament som fästs under lindningen på svärdets handtag, de har också en viss funktion genom att de gör det lättare att få ett fast grepp om handtaget. De är små till storleken, men ändå värdefulla delar av de kostsamma samurajsvärden, sedan sent 1800-tal även populära samlarobjekt i Väst.
Sparvar (eller pilfinkar) är välkända i många barnsagor i Japan, en av de mest berömda är den om den tungklippta sparven, shitakiri suzume.
Menuki are the decorative metal ornaments that are put under the sword handle wrapping. One pair of bronze and gold in the shape of two flying small birds, sparrows or tree sparrow (suzume).
Menuki also have a certain function as they make it easer to get a good grip on the sword handle. They were small in size, but anyway valuable parts of the expensive samurai swords. Since the late 19th c they also are popular as collector´s items in the West.
Sparrows are well known in many children´s tales in Japan, one of the most famous is the one about the tounge-cut sparrow, shitakiri suzume.
