Beskrivning: Kaudern tog doktorsgraden i zoologi vid Stockholms universitet 1910. Intendent vid geologiska och mineralogiska avdelningen Göteborgs museum 1928 och vid Nordenskiölds frånfälle 1932 tf indent vid etnografiska avdelningen och dess chef från 1934 till sin död 1942. Startade tidskriftserien Etnologiska studier 1935. Expeditioner: Två resor till Madagaskar 1906/07 och 1912/13, där merparten av det insamlade etnografiska materialet finns på etnografiska museet i Stockholm. (se saml. 1907.58 resp. 1913.6) 1916-1921; expeditionen till Celebes/Sulawesi tillsammans med frun Teres och deras två barn.Syftet va fr a zoologiska studier på ön som intar en särställning mellan Asien och Australien avseende både flora och fauna, men intresset för etnografin och människorna tog överhanden. Kaudern återvänder med fler än 3000 föremål, hundratals fotografier, teckningar och ritningar samt 15 oljemålningar. Det vetenskapliga resultatet publicerades i serien Ethnographical studies in Celebes.Det zoologiska materialet från Sulawesi finns på Göteborgs Naturhistoriska Museum.
