Description: Ture Arne Johnson, born May 7, 1879 in Söderköping, died 2 August 1965, Swedish archaeologist.
PhD in Uppsala in 1914 with the thesis "La Suède et l'Orient, études sur les relations archéologiques de la Suède et de l'Orient pendant l'Age des Vikings". Arne's field of work was mainly the contacts between Scandinavia and the early Russia.

Conservation - Executed

Cleaning and conservation report. D-nr 16455013. 950108. Condition: slightly dirty, but appears to have been mechanically cleaned before (surface is rubbed ). Part of surface has smooth, medium dark green/brown patina, which represents original surface, heavily spotted on both sides of blade with rather deep warts, filled with bright yellow powder. This is evidence of active, spreading corrosion, which has caused several small holes in blade. Under this bright yellow powder there is bare metallic surface in most cases. Handle is spotted with similar, but more brown corrosion powder warts. Drilled for metallographic analysis. NB! A sample of the very fine, bright yellow powder taken for chemical analysis. Results of X-ray diffraction and Electron Microscope analysis must be further interpreted. Treatment: cleaned mechanically with scalpel, small soft rotating bristle and steel brushes, under magnification. Stabilised in 3 % benzotriazole solution in ethanol for 48 hours. Rinsed in 95 % ethanol, dried. Protective coating of 10 % Paraloid B 72 applied.
